A meadow full of wildflowers, not one of them worrying about the others. Nine minutes on being one of them.
About 9 minutes with Steven Webb's calm voice.
Each flower blooms on its own without checking what the rest are doing. They know they are part of the field and they are still entirely themselves. They bend in the weather rather than fight it. If you get an itch during this, scratch it. No sense torturing yourself for ten minutes over an itch.

Thank you for sitting with me.

Who this is for
You keep checking how you are doing against other people, and it never comes out well.
Nine minutes in a field where nothing is competing with anything. It is a simple image and it goes in deeper than it sounds.
What happens in this meditation
You are standing in a wildflower meadow, colour and scent in every direction.
Then two things about the flowers. They sway in whatever weather turns up rather than brace against it, and they come back. And not one of them is watching the others. Each blooms on its own, part of the field and entirely itself, and no part of that is a contradiction.
Then the same thing said about you, with the confidence building on each breath in. Then five back to one.
How to get the most from it
Nine minutes, sitting up, and there is a useful bit of permission at the start.
If you get an itch, scratch it. Mindfully, but scratch it. There is no sense torturing yourself for ten minutes over an itch, and plenty of people give up on meditation over exactly that.
Stay with the flowers a moment longer than feels necessary before the words start. The picture is doing the work.
Questions people ask
Does telling myself I am unique actually help?
On its own, not much. Watching something that has never once compared itself to anything, and then noticing you have been doing it all morning, tends to do more.
What if I do not feel confident afterwards?
Then you are like most of us on most days. The aim is not a transformation in nine minutes. It is a slightly steadier place to stand while you get on with things.
Can I really move during a meditation?
Yes. Stillness is not the point and being uncomfortable is not a virtue. Move gently, notice you are moving, and carry on.
